If there is one thing we are not short on in this house, it is Wiggles toys. My daughter has loved the Wiggles for a long time, and at age five, I don’t see any signs of her outgrowing them. I know that she will soon, but until that time, she has plenty of Wiggly toys and movies to watch. She spends days on end pretending to be one of the Wiggles, or acting out scenes from their movies. They have definitely connected with her on some level even I can’t understand. I won’t argue with it though, as I think the Wiggles are wonderful and are of better quality than other shows out there right now.

Recently, the yellow Wiggle (Greg Page) had to retire due to a chronic condition orthostatic intolerance. He has been replaced by his understudy Sam Moran. This left me wondering if all of our Wiggles toys are now collectors items. We will miss Greg terribly, and I don’t think my daughter will ever get over it, but there are some who are reacting in a completely different way. While we will treasure our Wigglestoys that feature Greg Page, others have decided to make a profit.

Once news of Greg’s retirement spread, you could see Wiggles toys that feature his face popping up on eBay for inflated prices. I guess this happens whenever someone had to retire, leaves the entertainment business, or even dies, but I didn’t expect it to happen this time. The highest priced Wigglestoys on eBay were the dolls in his likeness and anything he had autographed. Some of these things went up over a hundred dollars a pop. These certainly aren’t Elvis Presley prices, but it was substantially more than they were going for just a week before his retirement.

As my daughter outgrows the Wiggles toys in our home, I will be putting them away and saving them. I don’t know if we will have another child, but if we do, I want him or her to know the Wiggles with Sam as well as the Wiggles with Greg Page. Most of her Wiggles toys are in surprisingly good shape, and they are something worth saving. Even if I don’t have any more children I will want to keep them around. They will always remind me of special moments with my daughter, and that makes them worth more than anyone on eBay could ever pay.
